You can't see your sewer line, but a camera can. Drain camera inspections are one of the most useful diagnostic tools for recurring drain problems.
What a camera inspection is
A small waterproof camera on a flexible cable is guided through the drain line, usually from a cleanout. A live image shows the inside of the pipe as the camera travels.
What it can reveal
- Grease and scale buildup
- Root intrusion at joints
- Cracks, breaks and separated joints
- Sags or bellies where water collects
- Objects lodged in the line
When it's worth doing
Inspections are most valuable when a drain clogs repeatedly, after a sewer backup, when roots or pipe fragments come up during cleaning, or before buying an older home.
Why it matters before repairs
Repairs are a significant decision. Seeing the actual condition of the line helps make sure the right section is addressed and avoids unnecessary work.
What to expect
If the line is heavily blocked, it may need to be cleared first. Afterward, you should receive a plain-language explanation of what was found. Learn more about our drain camera inspection service.
